Ariëlle Strijker

Ariëlle Strijker
   - Pencil drawing artist -

Hi there!

I'm Ariëlle, a self-taught artist working and living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. My work consists of graphite pencil (and charcoal) drawings on paper.

Drawn to Realism, I focus on intricate details while leaving out parts of the context to create a sense of mystery.
My love for drawing began in my early teens, inspired by my mother and grandmother's hobby. I would borrow drawing related books from the library and spend hours in my room trying to copy pictures. Drawing became a moment of peace and quiet, a way to inner silence and to escape struggles within myself. To this day, I still draw for the same reasons, now combined with a healthy dose of ambition and dedication.

Hands often play an important role in my work, as they fascinate me. Hands are silent narrators of stories, emotions, and meaning. Alongside hands, I also depict faces and other parts of the human body. I find inspiration in seemingly ordinary moments, thoughts and emotions - which often pass unnoticed but make me pause and reflect. Within these moments I see a deep value, a hidden meaning that I try to capture in my drawings.

My goal is to convey emotions and meaning, while still leaving my work open to interpretation. I don't aim for viewers to understand my personal message, but rather to evoke their own emotions, memories and associations.

Information / FAQ

I am still expanding my artistic practice and improving my professional website. Below you can find some basic information. If you have any questions or are interested in my work, feel free to contact me.

Care & Materials

Paper
The paper I draw on is Arches 300 gsm hot-pressed satine aquarelle paper. It is a cotton- based premium paper that is relatively thick and strong, but it is still best to handle with care.

Care and handling the drawing
When handling the drawing, try not to touch the surface but hold it by the edges, the white border, or the backside. If you must handle the front, please avoid touching the drawn areas. The graphite and charcoal can smudge easily. I use a high quality fixative for my drawings, but it's still sensitive to smudging.
The paper can absorb moisture, so avoid those places and also try to avoid direct sunlight.

I would be happy to give further advise when you would like to purchase an original artwork.

acquisition, commission & collaborations

Commissions
At the moment, I unfortunately do not take on commissions. However, I sometimes make exeptions if a request fits my style.

Collaborations
Collaborations are welcome when they are a good match for my drawing style. Feel free to contact me if you have an idea to discuss further.

Acquisition
The purchase of Original Drawings is currently still done through personal contact. Don't hestitate to contact me if you are interested in acquiring a work or if you have any questions about the process.

Prints are not yet available, but I am exploring the option of offering high-quality giclée limited edition prints in the future. Keep an eye on this website for updates, or feel free to contact me for the latest information.

Do I offer NFT?
No. I don't offer any of my artworks as NFT's or sell digital versions. All my artworks for purchase are physical original drawings, and in the future i will offer limited edition prints only.

Packaging, Shipping and Return policy

Packaging
Drawings are protected with acid-free paper to prevent smudging, and placed between strong cardboard. They are then surrounded by foam or other shock absorbing material, plus a layer of plastic for water protection. The drawing is placed in another additional layer cardboard or hardboard cover.
Prints will most likely be packed in a shipping tube, as they are less prone to smudging.
I am continuously researching an improving my packaging methods - feel free to ask me about current options.

Shipping
Shipping will be handled by suppliers located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Shipping costs are not included in the purchase price and are your responsibility. They will be charged seperately and added to the total amount.
Any additional taxes or import costs will also be at your own expense.

Return Policy
Each drawing is made with love, dedication and many hours of work. Because I am still an upcoming artist - and due to the delicate nature of original artworks - I do not offer returns or exchanges.
All purchases are final, so please consider your decision carefully before buying.
